The United Community Civic Association (UCCA) held its annual BBQ fundraiser and reception on June 11 at Central Lounge in Astoria. Many people attended, including members from Mount Sinai Queens and elected officials.

“We are humbled by the loyalty shown each and every year by the community to our civic association,” UCCA President Rose Marie Poveromo said. “Everyone has been a dear and loyal friend, including our elected officials, to our non-profit civic association.”

Guests enjoyed hot dogs, burgers, potato and macaroni salad, pasta and grilled chicken in comfort among the warm surroundings of Central Lounge’s dining room.

State Senator Michael Gianaris, Councilmembers Jimmy Van Bramer and Costa Constantinides, District Leader Carolyn Scarano, Dr. Arthur Gualtieri and members of Mount Sinai Queens were in attendance.

Toward the end of the evening, a special birthday cake was rolled out for Dr. Gualtieri.

As a non-political entity, UCCA is responsible for holding many community discussion forums, public health, and the betterment of the western Queens community at large. UCCA also holds an annual document-shredding event, a Halloween party, a 9/11 candlelight memorial ceremony and a legislative breakfast.
