Terrorists Then And Now

To The Editor:

By ironic coincidence, on Tuesday, September 11, the New York Times carried an enthusiastic article approving a new book, autobiographical, by the Vietnam era Weatherman terrorist Bill Ayres. Mr. Ayres, the Times fawned, joked about the 12 or so bombs, "eloquent bombs," he had exploded at the Pentagon, the Capitol and New York City Police Headquarters to protest the evil, racist and violent U.S. in Vietnam, during the ‘60s.

There is hardly a dime’s worth of difference between the thinking of the Vietnam era terrorists and the thinking of terrorist Osama bin Laden. The difference is only in degree.

There is a lesson. Mr. Ayres was arrested, tried, but was acquitted because of "illegal surveillance." Even then, illegal surveillance. The World Trade Center destruction is the culmination of the years of effort to blame and hate America by the left-wing opponents of the Vietnam War. Unremitting efforts by liberal judges, liberal lawmakers, liberal media, the ACLU, have progressively made surveillance impossible.

First they blinded the CIA and the FBI, then they blamed them. Bill Clinton’s era of "big government is over" was targeted almost exclusively against the military, cutting defense and intelligence.

But the New York Times is not finished. There Clyde Haberman has already raised the specter of Amadou Diallo. How nice and divisive when we should be united.

Bernard B. Kerik, Police Commissioner

The City of New York

New York City Police Department

One Police Plaza

New York, NY 10038

Dear Commissioner Kerik:

On behalf of every member of this board, I want to tell you how grateful we are for the selfless service you and your officers are giving at the World Trade Center. The courage of these men under such horrific circumstances was and is unbeleivable.

We are so proud and so thankful to your men, those who gave their lives, those who were injured and those who continue to work against so many odds and in such a dangerous site. What can we say. Our sympathy and love go out to the families of the missing and the dead. Our astonishment at the men who carry on.

Thank you and God bless you all.

Sincerely,

Bin Laden An Idiot

To The Editor:

(Regarding terrorist ringleader suspect Osama bin Laden), first of all, his ideology is that of a terrorist who plans and expedites death and destruction. He lives in caves, is devoid of bathing facilities and to him personal hygene is mythology.

To think that he can attack America and not suffer the wrath and retribution of the greatest country in the history of mankind demonstrates to the world not only that he’s the devil in human form, but also an imbecile.

Near the end of the second World War, the Japanese navy was almost completely wiped out, so the Japanese pilots were told that if they crashed their airplanes on American Navy ships and died they would go to paradise and meet their ancestors. They were called Kamikaze.

We as Americans, didn’t blame the Buddhist religion for the catastrophe of September 11, caused by satanic misanthropes.

The firemen and policemen who gave their lives so that 20,000 people would survive are heroes, just like the medics and doctors who died in our armed forces so that others may live.

May God bless the victims and their families.

Sincerely,
