SHAREing & CAREing, a community nonprofit organization providing grassroots support services to breast and ovarian cancer patients and their families through counseling, educational forums and advocacy services in Queens and throughout New York City, held its 20th annual benefit and silent auction on November 12 at Riccardo’s by the Bridge in Astoria. Joseph Pistilli, chairman of the board of Pistilli Realty Group, acted as master of ceremonies and auctioneer.
Present at the benefit, attended by more than 400 people, were SHAREing & CAREing President Anna Kril, Vice Presidents Eartha Washington and Lucille Hartmann and Treasurer Mary Demakos, District Leader Carolyn Scarano, former City Council Speaker Peter Vallone Sr., former Councilmember Peter Vallone Jr., Councilmember Costa Constantinides, Assemblymember Aravella Simotas, state Senator Michael Gianaris and Benefit Chair Linda Perno, along with Quontic Bank Vice President Michael Serao.
The 2014 honorees included Thomas A. Donovan of Massey Knakal Realty Services (Guest of Honor), Dr. Victor Ayzenberg of Elmhurst Hospital Center, Dr. Sonal Sura of Queens Health Network and Dr. Che-Kai Tsao of Mount Sinai Medical Center (Physicians Recognition Award), Jeffery C. Gold (Community Recognition Award), SHAREing & CAREing Program Coordinator Anna Zabniak (Angel Award) and Gloria DeMarco Aloise was the posthumous recipient of the Gloria D’Amico Lifetime Achievement Award.
Since its founding in 1994, SHAREing & CAREing, as an advocate for breast and ovarian cancer patients and their families, has sought to improve medical services to women throughout the five boroughs through early detection, treatment and information about living with the effects of breast cancer, regardless of economic stratum.

CAREing helps people from high school age to senior citizens, through services that include individual advocacy and case management, referrals, essential services, support groups, educational forums, stress reduction workshops and pharmaceutical assistance.
The founder and executive board members of SHAREing & CAREing are breast cancer survivors who represent the multi-ethnic fabric of Queens’ communities. SHAREing & CAREing has partnered with local physicians and hospitals to offer health forums and mammography screenings, and has provided unique counseling and culturally sensitive support services for women seeking information, and for those diagnosed with cancer.
