Ifirst visited Ridgewood Eats when it opened, nearly two and a half years ago. Since then, this casual neighborhood eatery has become a regular spot for great

breakfasts, lunches and dinners and caters to families and friends. Expert catering is also available. Owners John and Chris work tirelessly to maintain the high quality of the food served and the sparkling clean interior. The restaurant’s motto, “Great food done right,” is evident in every tasty dish. The comfortable dining room sparkles with contemporary track lighting, clean tables and ceramic tile floors. Ridgewood Eats is open seven days a week from 7am to 11pm to accommodate the throngs of hungry patrons.

Ridgewood Eats serves very generous portions of freshly prepared food in a comfortable setting, served by a very friendly wait staff. Best of all, the prices are incredibly reasonable, especially given the large portions. For lunch or dinner, try some of their tempting appetizers such as Buffalo wings that are spicy and flavorful, served with bleu cheese dressing and celery on the side. Chicken fingers and mozzarella sticks are very popular with kids and come with sauces for dipping. The new Cuban style pork spring rolls are filled with roasted pork, bits of ham and savory, melted cheese, fried in a crisp wrapper. Dip these crispy rolls into creamy guacamole, sour cream and salsa for a real treat. The appetizer sampler platter will make everyone happy. Ridgewood Eats also offers three home made soups each day. Varieties include hearty lentil soup, chicken noodle, beef barley and more.

Dinner time offers lots of options. Fresh pasta dishes such as rigatoni Bolognese with home made meat sauce ($9.25), spaghetti puttanesca, with spicy tomato, anchovy and caper sauce, and linguine primavera name just a few, all under $10. Chicken dishes include tender chicken marsala, where two boneless breasts are pounded and sautéed in a heavenly wine sauce with mushrooms. This dish, like the others, is served piping hot atop a bed of pasta and offers plenty to take home for lunch the next day ($9.95). Ridgewood Eats does a fine

job with fish and seafood too. I was very impressed with the freshness and flavor of the salmon piccata, where two salmon filets were sautéed with capers and white wine and served atop a mound of linguine. Another house favorite is tender shrimp scampi in a lemony sauce served over rice. Dinner specials of the evening included cappellini Abruzzese with calamari, shrimp, mussels and vegetables sautéed in garlic and oil and served over angel hair pasta. If you crave beef, try their 12-ounce Angus steak, cooked to juicy perfection. Meatloaf and grilled twin pork chops satisfy even the largest appetite, since all entrées are served with your choice of soup or salad. A standard at Ridgewood Eats are the 8-ounce charcoal broiled burgers with your favorite toppings and fries or sweet potato fries.

At lunch time or anytime, some of the most popular items include oven pressed panini sandwiches and wraps. Panini are Italian style sandwiches, made on foccaccia bread, then pressed with a sandwich grill to melted bliss. Ridgewood Eats makes hundreds of these tasty sandwiches a day, the most popular being the Honey Chicken Panini. A grilled chicken breast is topped with cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and a touch of honey mustard. Best of all, every panini comes with their famous sweet potato fries, which are not to be missed. The Sicilian panini layers prosciutto, mozzarella and sun dried tomato with arugula and balsamic vinaigrette for a taste of Italy. Wrap up your lunch with one of Ridgewood Eats’ delicious wraps, made on flour tortillas. The grilled chicken pesto is made with fresh mozzarella, sun dried tomato, lettuce and tomato with a smear of rich pesto sauce. Grilled salmon makes for a healthy lunch, wrapped up with tomato, arugula and roasted peppers. A choice of ten healthy salads offers even more options for lunch or dinner. Save room for one of their decadent desserts including chocolate thunder cake, three layers of heaven, or the Big Blitz with chunks of brownies, candy bars, caramel and cream cheese filling. Ridgewood Eats is proud to serve the original Junior’s Cheescake as well, the perfect ending to any meal here.

While Ridgewood Eats serves hearty breakfasts seven days a week, the weekend breakfast specials are so popular, a line forms out the door. The crowds come for golden, crispy Belgian waffles, topped with fruit and maple syrup or a stack of fluffy pancakes with crispy bacon, ham or sausage. Country style omelets folded with cheeses, ham, spinach, avocado, mushrooms and more are a real treat on Saturday and Sunday mornings, when there’s time to linger over coffee and enjoy the first meal of the day. Muffins, cereals, bagels and egg sandwiches are swiftly packed up to take to work on weekdays too and the coffee is delicious.
