Construction Underway For Astoria Senior Housing

The first shovels have hit the ground in the construction of a six-story affordable housing complex at 23-11 31st Road in Astoria.

The building, which will feature 102 housing units for low-income seniors and the formerly homeless is being developed by Catholic Charities, which manages the Catherine Sheridan Houses, a low-income, affordable housing complex featuring 240 units that is located across the street on 31st Road.

The new development, dubbed the Bishop Valero Residence, will feature a 6,400-square-foot, 200-seat senior center on the ground floor that will be operated by Catholic Charities Neighborhood Services.

The development will be a 100 per cent affordable residence for seniors, with 30 per cent of the units reserved for formerly homeless seniors with severe mental illness. Units reserved for low-income seniors will be available for those making up to 60 per cent of the Area Median Income (AMI).

“More than ever, western Queens is in need of quality senior affordable housing,” City Councilmember Costa Constantinides said in a prepared statement. “We lead the city in seniors awaiting appropriate housing that matches their financial means. They deserve to remain in the neighborhoods where they built a family and retired with dignity.”

 

Eight-Story Mixed Use Building

The owner of a parcel at 29-10 21st Street in Astoria has filed plans to develop an eight-story, mixed-use building at the site, according to information posted on the YIMBY (Yes, In My Back Yard) website.

The proposed, 80-foot-tall development will feature 19,850-square-feet of residential space with likely 28 rental units, 3,100-square-feet of commercial space and a 30-foot-long rear yard, according to YIMBY.

Demolition permits were filed in March for a two-story mixed-use building currently at the site.

The building, located between 29th and 30th Avenues, is conveniently located within walking distance to the MTA 30th Avenue elevated N-W lines and the MTA Q-102 bus line.

An estimated completion date has not been announced.

 

Red Brick Condominium

The owner of a parcel at 31-27 Crescent Street in Astoria has revealed final plans for development of a seven-story residential building at the site, according to information posted on the YIMBY (Yes, In My Back Yard) website.

The development will feature a red brick facade with floor-to-ceiling glass windows, balconies and terraces for select units and an interior courtyard, according to YIMBY.

The project will also feature 24,170-square-feet of residential space with 30 condominium units, a fitness center, a patio on the roof level and a private parking lot at the rear of the building.

Located between 31st Avenue and 31st Road, the building is conveniently located just a short distance from Rainey Park and the East River waterfront, the New York City Ferry, the MTA 30t Avenue elevated N-W lines and the MTA Q-102 bus line.

The development is also conveniently located within walking distance to the 30th Avenue (Astoria) shopping district and “Restaurant Row.”

A completion date has not yet been announced.

 

Long Island City Residential

The owner of a parcel at 46-10 11th Street in Long Island City has filed plans to develop an eight-story, mixed-use building at the site, according to information posted on the YIMBY (Yes, In My Back Yard) website.

The proposed, 85-foot-tall development will feature 34,329-square-feet of residential space with likely 44 rental units, 1.240-square-feet of commercial space, a cellar, a 20-foot-long rear yard and 40 enclosed parking spaces, according to YIMBY.

The building, located at the intersection of 46th Avenue and 11th Street in Long Island City, is conveniently located just two blocks from the MTA Court Square G and No. 7 lines and is within walking distance to the Queens Plaza transportation hub.

Demolition permits have not been filed for a two-story commercial building currently at the site.

An estimated completion date has not been announced.
