Maloney Launches 2020 Campaign In Long Island City

Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens) officially announced her 2020 campaign on Wednesday, January 22.

That evening, Maloney’s campaign held the grand opening of their new campaign office, located in a former industrial space in Long Island City. The campaign kickoff featured words of support for Maloney from elected officials including Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, Councilman Keith Powers, and Councilman Ben Kallos, as well as community and spiritual leader Bishop Mitchell Taylor. All stressed Maloney’s ability to get things done for New York’s 12th District, and spoke from personal experience about her tenacity and perseverance on projects on which they had collaborated.

Special guest, Congressman Eric Swalwell, known for his advocacy and dedication to fighting gun violence, also endorsed the Congresswoman, stressing Maloney’s commitment to her constituents.

During his endorsement, Swalwell advised NY-12 voters: “If you want to end gun violence, keep Carolyn. If you want every single person to have healthcare in your community, keep Carolyn. And if you want that Equal Rights Amendment to be the law of our country, keep Carolyn Maloney.”

 

 

Constituents, elected officials and community leaders shared their reasons for supporting Maloney, with frequent themes including her work on the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund, paid parental leave, women’s rights, the Equal Rights Amendment, her dedication to her constituents, and her ability to get results for her district.

Gov. Kathy Hochul; teacher & activist Briget Rein; former City Council Speaker Christine Quinn; District Leader John Blasco; Councilman Ben Kallos; District Leader Jenny LamLow; Assemblywoman Deborah Glick; NY-12 constituent, Haina Just-Michael; and John Weinstein, CannaGather.

Maloney has been endorsed by: End Citizens United, the Eleanor Roosevelt Democratic Club, Aldos Democrats, Samuel J. Tilden Democratic Club, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, the Progressive Caucus PAC, Brady United Against Gun Violence, and the National Organization of Women Political Action Committee (NOW PAC). Her recent achievements include passing permanent funding of the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund, winning 12 weeks of paid parental leave for 2.1 million federal workers and their families, and being elected as the first woman to chair the powerful House Committee on Oversight and Reform.
