Many locals already know that Gramercy Caf3 is famous for breakfast with specialties that include fluffy buttermilk pancakes in a big stack, topped with fresh fruit and whipped cream, if you like. The French toast is light and airy, topped with berries and served with maple syrup and butter. The Monte Cristo layers French toast with sliced ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese for a sweet and savory treat that makes a great brunch or lunch. Belgian waffles are served seven days a week, crisp and golden from the iron available straight up, with chocolate chips or fruit, and bacon or sausage on the side. Fluffy omelets are served with home fries and toast and come in varieties such as the Western omelet, California with avocado, pepper jack cheese, mushroom and tomato, and the vegetarian egg white omelet. Eggs, frittatas and all these breakfast items are served every day from 6am to 4pm and make an ideal weekend brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 12-3pm along with Mimosas and other brunch cocktails.

The new, exciting dinner menu at Gramercy Caf3 features classic dishes from Mexico and Colombia all made fresh on the spot. We started with refreshing cocktails: a mojito for me served in a tall, elegant cut glass with muddled lime and mint. My dashing companion delighted in his “pica pica” spicy margarita, also served in a pretty cut-glass tumbler with a slice of lime and rim of tajin. Daiquiris are mixed with Bacardi rum, lime juice, and your choice of mango, strawberry, or passion fruit. Eduardo, the congenial owner, is always creating new cocktails so ask him what’s new from the bar. Stop in during Happy Hours from 12pm to 7pm with discounted margaritas, daiquiris, frozen cocktails, wine and beer.
Next came a generous platter of handmade guacamole with a spicy kick, that we scooped up with homemade crunchy tortilla chips. Ceviche is citrus-marinated shrimp in homemade cocktail sauce, dressed with sliced avocado for a visual and gustatory treat, served with golden tortilla chips. Colombian style arepas are corn meal cakes stuffed with a variety of cheese or meat fillings, cleverly served in an upright metal basket for easy eating. Empanadas filled with beef or chicken are great for sharing and the chicken wings come with your choice of Buffalo sauce, mango Habanero, or BBQ sauce.
Gramercy Caf3’s taco bar features some of Mexico’s best street food. Tacos filled with steak, chicken, carnitas (roasted pork), shrimp, chorizo sausage, and birria (slow-cooked beef sirloin) are all juicy, delicious, and served three to an order for sharing. The chef prepares hefty burritos filled as you like with chicken, steak, or chorizo, rice and beans, cheese, pico de gallo and sour cream.
Esquites (ess-KEE-tess) is a corn dish made from white and yellow kernels mixed with cotija cheese and a touch of chili powder ($13). Quesadillas are two tortillas filled with either cheese, steak, or chorizo then grilled together to gooey goodness, served with sour cream and guacamole sauce ($14). I demolished the juicy Mexican burger, cooked to order and layered with chorizo, jack cheese, and jalapeños. The accompanying French fries are outrageously delicious so don’t be surprised if your friend steals some off your plate!
Indulge in a sweet dessert any time of day with their light and creamy tiramisu, tres leches cake, or churros with ice cream. Cappuccino, coffee, and tea are brewed fresh all day long so get your pick-me-up to stay or to go at Gramercy Caf3.
