To The Editor:

As always, I was delighted to read several positive articles in the March 21, 2007 issue of the Gazette and I shall now share my thoughts with the readers.

I am really appreciative and must commend Congressmembers Crowley and Maloney for their tireless efforts in sponsoring legislation on the federal level to provide $3.4 billion for health care for our military men and women and veterans. These brave and courageous warriors gave their all to their country and deserve more health care and this is a way of showing them our gratitude. In addition, I am glad that legislation concerning supervision and commitment of sex offenders will be enacted by our state Assembly. These sex offenders when released from prison are dangerous and if let loose and on the Internet, or live near school and daycare centers, may cause further danger and harm to our children, who are the future of America.

I also commend the efforts of the Assembly and senate members for their caring to enact legislation concerning toughening the penalties for crimes of abuse of senior citizens. These senior citizens are vulnerable and members of the greatest generation and we must safeguard their welfare and lives. I also am so sorry about the deaths of the two Auxiliary Police who gave of themselves, dedicated their lives to prevent crime and safeguard their communities. They are heroes, selfless, caring, and fulfill the true spirit of America, one heart helping another.

By the way, these Auxiliary Police should be given bulletproof vests since they are in harm’s way. To realize that young lives with such great potential were suddenly and cruelly snuffed out by a vicious beastial criminal makes me cringe with indignation. Cynthia Groopman Long Island City
