Immigration Advocacy Services recently celebrated its 30th anniversary at Riccardo’s by the Bridge (21-01 24th Avenue, Astoria). The evening’s honorees included Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney; NYS Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas; NYC District Office of Citizenship and Immigration Services within DHS Community Relations Officer Shyconia Burden-Noten, honored as IAS’s Exemplary Public Servant; and as Immigrant Entrepreneur, Alberto Betancourt. They all received the Light of Liberty awards for their various contributions to our city and country. Honored also was Korina Bogiatzis for 25 years of exemplary service to Immigration Advocacy Services.
Many civic leaders, elected officials, government and community groups and individuals attended the affair held in Riccardo’s main ballroom.
Immigration Advocacy Services began in 1988 in the World Trade Center and then found its home in Astoria because so many of the principals lived there. In the past three decades IAS has helped thousands of people become residents and citizens of the USA, and reunited long-separated families.
