As one of the fastest growing communities in the city, Astoria has become Queens’ “Restaurant Row” – home to hundreds of restaurants, bakeries, cafes and coffee shops, all situated within a few square blocks just minutes from Midtown Manhattan and LaGuardia Airport. The cuisine of nearly the entire globe is represented. A celebration on June 4 at Omonia Cafe, 32-20 Broadway, Astoria, kicked things off with samples of favorite dishes from Cafe Triskell, Uncle George’s, Tu Casa, Namaste and Omonia. On hand to help celebrate were (l. to r.); Central Astoria Local Development Coalition (CALDC) Executive Director Marie Torniali, CALDC President George Stamatiades, Queens Borough President Helen Marshall, CALDC Executive Vice President Queens Gazette Publisher Tony Barsamian, Omonia owner John Arvanitis and CALDC Director Linda Perno. Dine Astoria Week takes place from June 24 through 30. For more information, visit www.dineastoria.com and www.centralastoria.org. 17p1.jpg
