State Senator Michael Gianaris was on hand to honor Astoria’s Jerry Kril in the state senate’s Veterans’ Hall of Fame 2012 Celebration on May 22 in Albany. Kril was recognized for his outstanding service to the United States Army, First Infantry Division, and for his dedication to the Astoria community, particularly in the area of veterans’ affairs. Kril received an honorable discharge from the army in 1970. “I congratulate Jerry Kril for his decorated service to the United States Army and his ongoing commitment to helping the lives of his fellow veterans,” Gianaris said. “Mr. Kril’s hard work has made him a highly respected and strong presence in our community. It is with great pleasure that I honor him for his contributions, not only to Western Queens, but also to his family and his fellow Americans.” While serving in the Vietnam War, Kril was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Medal, the Purple Heart and three air medals. He is currently a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Catholic War Veterans, the Disabled American Veterans and the Ukrainian American Veterans. He is also a member of Community Board 1, Astoria Kiwanis Club, Astoria Civic Association, Taminent Regular Democratic Club and the Astoria Historical Association. 2p1.jpg
