Ian McGowan holds his own Winged Fist Way sign, presented to him for his tireless effort to preserve the memory of the Irish-American Athletic Club, better known as Winged Fist. In the period 1900-1912, IAAC athletes stood out in five Olympic Games. The other Winged Fist Way street sign is now mounted at the corner of 43rd Street and 48th Avenue, where it was installed at a ceremony March 10. Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer (l.), Congressmember Joseph Crowley (third from l.) and state Senator Michael Gianaris (r.) were among some 50 celebrants at the sign unveiling.
