Halvatz Attends Elton John's 70th Sold Out Concert

Elton John performing in his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour.Elton John performing in his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour.On Wednesday March 6th, my wife and I had the opportunity to attend Elton John’s 70th sold out show at Madison Square Garden. As Elton John proceeds through his Farewell Yellowbrick Road Tour, which he says is his last, there is nothing like a two-day stop over at MSG.  From the opening chords of Bennie and the Jets to the last song, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Elton electrified the Garden. Having been fortunate enough over the years to see him several times, I must say he was at his best.

He went through a greatest hits list that included 24 songs over two and a half hours.

As I looked around the Garden, I saw all ages, from teenagers to people in their 80s.  For a man who has performed for 50 years, his music has become timeless.  As Elton played Crocodile Rock, a song done in the 70s, you could see the whole crowd sing along, knowing every word.  Many singing were born well after its radio time had ended, but enjoyed it as if they had grown up listening to it.

Elton took time to speak to the audience and shared the fact that by 1990 his life was a mess from drinking and he finally reached out for help. Once he reached out his whole life began to change for the better.  Also he shared the fact that Madison Square Garden was his favorite venue to play and thanked the audience for their always favorable reception.

He and his well-tuned band walked off the stage after a two-song encore, leaving the Garden buzzing from the excitement. If this was the last time I will see him in concert, then he certainly leaves still sounding amazing.
