Free Tax Prep At Queens College

Queens College celebrates its second year of free income tax preparation for students, staff, faculty, and the general public. Social Sciences Dean Michael Wolfe (c.) was joined by Accounting and Information Systems Adjunct Professor and VITA Coordinator Martin Cohen (third from r.) and Queens College students who are IRS-trained and certified VITA volunteers.Photo Andy Poon, Queens CollegeQueens College opened the door on its second year of free income tax preparation for students, staff, faculty, and the general public on Thursday, February 14th, as part of the Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). The VITA program at Queens College will provide tax preparation assistance through April 15th to people who make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities, and taxpayers whose first language is not English, by IRS-certified volunteers who will assist with electronic filing.

Consultations with VITA staff are by appointment only on Thursdays and Saturdays, from 10 am to 4 pm. Appointments may be made by emailing qcvita@qc.cuny.edu or by phone at 718-997-2980. Clients should bring the following with them to their consultation: Current year’s tax package, all W-2s and 1099s, as well as last year’s return; information on other income and deductions/credits; proof of checking account for direct deposit (such as a voided check); proof of identity, as well as Social Security or individual taxpayer ID cards for the person filing, a spouse and any dependents.
