Queensbridge Girl, 8, Scalded

An 8-year-old Queensbridge girl was hospitalized with burns and bruises on January 9th after a pipe in her family’s apartment at the Long Island City housing project burst, spewing scalding steam on her hand, police said.

Cops said the pipe burst at about 1:20 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, several hours after the girl’s mother called NYCHA to complain that the bathroom pipe was leaking hot water.

The pipe burst, filling the bathroom with scalding steam and hot water just as the girl and her mother walked into the room, causing the girl to slip on hot water that covered the floor, police said.

A NYCHA spokesperson said the agency sent representatives to the building on Saturday to provide assistance to the girl and her family, and make sure necessary repairs are performed.
