Off-Duty Cop Charged In Bar Brawl
An off-duty NYPD officer is facing felony assault and other charges for allegedly beating a man in a Queens bar brawl on October 13th, 2018. Off-duty Police Officer Jose Linares-Bilbao, 24, was arrested on January 31st after surveillance video contradicted an account of the incident he gave to police at the time of the assault, an NYPD spokesperson said. Officers responding to 911 calls arrested Linares-Bilbao, Andres Dilorenzo Cedillo, and Armando Heredia Delgado moments after the attack, prosecutors said. Another suspect, Carlos Heredia Delgado, was arrested on October 18th. The four men are accused of beating the victim “bloody” outside sports bar Capo at 79th Street and Roosevelt Avenue in Jackson Heights, just after 4 am on October 13th, according to a criminal complaint.
Prosecutors said the four suspects knocked the victim to the ground, where they punched, kicked and bashed him with a bottle. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he required six stitches to close a gash on his head.
Linares-Bilboa told investigators he was inside another bar near Capo at the time of the attack, and that he ran outside to break up the assault when he spotted the three men beating the victim. The veteran NYPD housing officer said he tried to “pull” the assailants off the victim, but at some point he blacked out. The victim later identified Linares-Bilbao from surveillance video as an “active participant in the assault,” according to the complaint.
Linares-Bilboa was released on his own recognizance at his arraignment at Queens Criminal Court. The four men could face up to 12 years in prison, if convicted.
