With excellent, freshly prepared Italian dishes and pizza, fine wine, great service, and a comfortable dining room, Pizza Classica is everyone’s favorite eatery in Glendale. What’s more, their expert catering will make your holiday party, family or business occasion a big success.

Rocco Zummo is at the helm of this wildly popular restaurant and pizzeria, located on Union Turnpike, with plenty of free garage parking. On one side, the blazing pizza ovens crank out hundreds of Pizza Classica’s outrageously delicious brick oven and traditional NY style pizzas, calzones, stromboli, hot heroes and more. On the other side, a comfortable, nicely decorated dining room hosts everyone from couples to entire families dining together. Wood beams and soft lighting create a warm glow and elegant drapes frame the windows.

Felix and Marlin are wonderful servers and ensure a wonderful dining experience. They helped us settle in with glasses of wine as we pored over the menu with its many tantalizing options. For starters, we opted for juicy mussels marinara, swimming in garlicky tomato sauce meant for soaking up with the warm bread and focaccia that comes with your meal. Next, we peeled away at tender leaves of the gorgeous stuffed artichoke, filled with crispy seasoned breadcrumbs and cheese. Baked clams oreganata are great for sharing, as are the stuffed shrimp, filled with sweet crabmeat, sautéed in lemon, garlic and butter sauce. With two to a serving, the crab cakes make a great appetizer, golden and crisp, served with remoulade sauce ($13.95). Buttery buratta mozzarella melts in your mouth, served with fine prosciutto, tomatoes, and roasted peppers. Eggplant rollatini is one of Pizza Classica’s specialties, rolled up with fluffy ricotta, and topped with the family’s secret recipe tomato sauce.

Pizza Classico’s salads are so abundant, you can make a meal out of them, especially when topped with grilled shrimp, chicken, salmon, or avocado. Choose among baby spinach salad, arugula salad, mesculine, fruit and nuts, grilled portabello, and corn salad.

You simply must have some of Pizza Classica’s pasta dishes, whether you share one as a first course or make it your whole meal. Our homemade gnocchi al Ponte Vecchio were tender dumplings covered in a creamy pink sauce with prosciutto, onions, and green peas. Cavatelli are toothsome pasta topped with rich, meaty Bolognese sauce or try classic spaghetti carbonara with egg, butter and smoky bacon for a Roman treat ($16.95). Linguine with baby scallops and shrimp or alle vongole with sweet clams are house favorites. Black squid ink linguine is topped with shrimp, scallops, and crab meat in a light tomato sauce scented with fragrant saffron for an aromatic and outrageously good dish. Orecchiete are ‘little ears’ with broccoli rabe, garlic and crumbled sausage. Whole wheat rigatoni are delicious with a sauce of baby spinach, sautéed chicken and tomatoes in garlic and oil.

Pizza Classica offers two dozen tempting entrées including meat, poultry and fish, all prepared on the spot and beautifully presented. We loved the chicken Capriciosa, a crisp, fried cutlet topped with arugula salad, red onion and tomato ($19.95). The side dish of verdant spinach sautéed with garlic was simply delicious. Grilled veal spiedini is made from pounded medallions of veal, layered with prosciutto and cheese, then rolled up and gently sautéed ($23.95). This dish can be ordered with chicken as well, or try savory chicken Cordon Bleu with ham and cheese, chicken scarpariello, or chicken cacciatore, and soak up all the delicious juices with crusty bread. The juicy pork chops campagnola are made with sautéed onions, mushrooms, roasted peppers and potatoes, Rib eye steaks are cooked to order and can be pan seared with porcini mushroom sauce, peppercorn sauce or Fiorentina style with olive oil and rosemary.

Seafood entrées include fresh shrimp, salmon, and fillet of sole in a variety of ways including oregenata style, seasoned with herbs and crisp, golden bread crumbs, or Marechiara style with clams, mussels, onions and light tomato sauce. Pan seared salmon is prepared with wild mushrooms and served with your choice of pasta, house salad, or vegetable of the day. Pizza Classica serves generous portions, making for a special lunch the next day.

Save room for Rocco’s mother-in-law’s famous tiramisu, light and fluffy, served in an elegant glass with a strawberry on top. We shared a tartufo ice cream bomb, elegantly cut up and served with whipped cream. There’s also crème brulee, spumoni, cannolis, and Italian cheesecake. Espresso or coffee completes this satisfying meal.

Keep Pizza Classica in mind to make any night special or make a special night a very memorable one. The service is efficient and friendly and don’t forget Pizza Classica’s catering. They’re open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, from 11am to 11pm weekdays and until midnight on Friday and Saturday. There’s plenty of free, indoor parking in the shopping center’s garage and Pizza Classica is easy to reach, just off Woodhaven Blvd. For fine Italian cooking, fine wine, great service and fair prices, you’ll love Pizza Classica. Salute!
