Queens Businesses Can Learn How to Solve Their Staffing Challenges At Upcoming Symposium

Queens businesses will receive information to help them solve their staffing challenges from experienced human resource leaders and workforce trainers at A Workforce Symposium, on Friday, November 16th, at United Nations Federal Credit Union, sponsored by Verizon.

The Queens Chamber of Commerce Foundation, in partnership with Queens Chamber of Commerce and the NYC Employment and Training Coalition, is presenting the Symposium, entitled: Finding and Keeping Qualified Staff in a Tight Labor Market.

Two panels of experts will provide guidance and expertise. The first panel--led by Ken Adams, Dean of Workforce and Economic Development at Bronx Community College/CUNY—will comprise human resource professionals at major Queens businesses sharing tips on identifying candidates with good customer service skills, finding talent in the gig economy, finding qualified dual-language staff, and keeping up with regulations. Following this, Jose Ortiz, Executive Director of NYC Employment and Training Coalition, will lead a panel of experienced workforce trainers on how businesses can create partnerships with them to recruit, develop and retain talent.

Panelists are:
    •    Shaheen Barrett, HR Business Partner, Verizon
    •    Nicole Leon, Director of Diversity and Inclusion, Con Edison
    •    BeniJayne Santiago, Talent Acquisition Manager - Retail NY, Investors Bank
    •    Shree Cousins, Vice President of Workforce, Goodwill Industries Greater NY & Northern NJ
