From the first time I visited the very first Bareburger on 31st Avenue in Astoria 9 years ago, I knew they were on to a very good thing. Who wouldn’t love guilt-free, organic burgers, sandwiches, and salads made from sustainable ingredients? The concept was so successful that there are nearly 50 Bareburger restaurants today, both nationally and internationally. Whether you visit the Bayside location, Atlanta, Tokyo, or Dubai location, you’ll be guaranteed an excellent Bareburger experience.

It all started when a group of friends from Astoria had the ambition to offer a healthy, socially responsible burger restaurant ideal for families, friends, and couples. Each Bareburger location has its own unique décor since all materials are sourced locally. What remains the same is the consistently delicious food, made from locally-sourced, organic, and sustainable ingredients. That means you can get your favorite bison burger, “Kail Caesar” salad, and black & white milkshake wherever you go.

Start with a frosty cold beer from Queens’ own breweries, or a classic cocktail from the bar. The slushy blood orange margarita, and fruity sangria go well with Panko chicken tenders or buttermilk chicken bites appetizers. Go vegetarian and gluten free with crispy Brussel sprouts topped with lemon and sea salt. Another one of Bareburger’s virtues is the extensive variety of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options on the menu, so everyone can have their burger and eat it too!

Meat lovers will rejoice in the finest organic, grass-fed beef, bison, turkey, or chicken patties, which make up the base of your build your own burger. Non-meat options include the “Impossible” burger, “Beyond” burger, quinoa and chia burger, or sweet potato, kale and wild rice burger. Next, choose your bun among brioche, sprout bun, and gluten-free buns. Choose your favorite cheese, including vegan American cheese, and toppings such as alfalfa sprouts, baby spinach, red onions, tomatoes, pickled jalapenos, or sweet pickles to name a few. Bareburger makes 10 different organic sauces and ketchups to top your burger with, or to dip their irresistible French fries into. Speaking of fries, they are hand cut and ordered separately along with onion rings, sweet potato fries, and other great sides like their crunchy Napa slaw, dill or sweet pickles, served in a jelly jar.

Bareburger makes it easy for you by listing a dozen burger specialties including “El Matador” with queso fresco, guacamole, pico de gallo, pickled jalapenos, and lettuce on a brioche bun. The “Paul Bunyan” features a bison burger topped with bleu cheese, black forest bacon, bourbon pear jam, and caramelized onion on a sprout bun. My friend dove into the “Blazin’ Bison” with sriracha mayo and enjoyed every juicy, succulent bite ($14.95). The vegan “Thai Chia” tops a quinoa chia patty with vegan American cheese, wild mushrooms, caramelized onion, baby spinach, and spicy Thai ketchup on a sprout bun for a two-handed feast.

I tried the new “Sweeeeet Bird” sandwich made with buttermilk fried chicken topped with bourbon pear jam, lettuce, stone ground mustard and sticky sauce on a brioche bun. The combination of flavors and textures won me over and I’ve added it to my other favorite sandwich: The Buttermilk Buffalo chicken sandwich made with buttermilk fried chicken breast, Amish blue cheese, lettuce, tomato and Buffalo ranch sauce ($9.95).

Keep it green with one of Bareburger’s famous salads as a starter, main course, or for sharing at the table. The “Kail Caesar” is tossed with baby kale, baby romaine, grape tomatoes, and radish topped with asiago cheese and classic Caesar dressing, available in two sizes. The “Berry Blue” is a gluten free salad of baby spinach, bleu cheese, dried blueberries, candied pecans, and apple cider vinaigrette. You can even top off your salad with a protein for a complete, healthy meal for lunch or dinner.

You can even feel good about desserts at Bareburger where fine, organic dairy ice cream goes into their awesome shakes and ice cream sandwiches called “Sammies.” The banana Foster shake blends quality vanilla ice cream with bananas and caramel sauce which is so yummy. I loved the Mexican chocolate shake, spiced with cayenne and cinnamon, chocolate chips, then topped with a toasted, melted marshmallow. Vegan shakes include the “Cococado” made with coconut, avocado and lime that is so delicious, you won’t miss the dairy. There’s also flourless chocolate cake, vegan carrot cake, and a host of Sundaes that will inspire you to walk home after your meal. People of all ages and tastes will love Bareburger with its casual vibe, excellent food and drinks, and fabulous desserts. A “Cubby” menu is available for the kids and there’s even a Bareburger app to order on-line. The menu has a new “Snap Code” which links to Snap chat to create your own photos. With nearly 50 locations, there’s a Bareburger near you so visit now for locally sourced, organic burgers, sandwiches, salads, and milk shakes that your body will appreciate.
