Hot Fun In The Summertime

Don’t think about the future or the past, be here now! Yes, summer’s finally here, but it doesn’t last forever, so don’t hide from the sun and heat, embrace it. You can have cool, shady breaks in the parks, or splash down at Rockaway Beach or the many public pools that have recently been renovated. Or be different and ice down at the World Ice Arena at Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Root for the Mets at Citi Field and get ready for the US Open at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in the USTA Billie Jean King National

Tennis Center. There are street fairs and parades galore, free activities of every sort in air-conditioned Queens Library, plus theaters, museums, cultural centers, with many concerts, plays, art projects and films for free in the parks, and special activities for the kids in the Police Athletic League’s Playstreets. Don’t forget all the fresh fruity flavors of summer everywhere you go. See our Community Calendar online (QGazette.com) and look for our monthly magazine, Queens Scene (“in-person” in glossy color hardcopies and also online at QueensScene.com) for a heads-up on all the upcoming excitement around the corner, or a few train or bus stops away. Or hop on your bike, which can be accommodated on our fabulous, refreshing new ferry lines!

Queens started out as a sleepy suburban getaway, but The World’s Borough today offers every variety of fun, while still being a lush, green oasis. So if you have an appetite for fun, buen provecho!
