FDNY Medic Helps Nab Tip Thief

An off-duty FDNY medic is being heaped with praise this week for helping some Astoria restaurant workers foil a robbery on July 14th.

Cops said EMS Lt. Dwayne Coley was driving on Astoria Boulevard just before noon on July 14th when an elderly woman waved and pointed to a group of men who were wrestling with another man on a nearby sidewalk.

Coley jumped from his FDNY suburban and joined the men, who were holding down a man who had swiped a tip jar and a charity cup from a nearby café where they worked. Coley pinned down the suspect until police arrived, an NYPD spokesperson said.

The suspect was charged with petit larceny and assault at his arraignment at Queens Criminal Court.

The tip jar, charity cup and their contents were returned to the café workers, the police spokesperson said.
