Gregory Meeks (5th CD). Gregory Meeks (5th CD). Maloney is a fearless and determined fighter with a record of getting results for New Yorkers:

Defending Access to Healthcare: Maloney has been a staunch defender of healthcare for New Yorkers—from authoring the James Zadroga Act to provide health care for 9/11 first responders, to standing up against Republican efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act. She believes that every American deserves access to quality, affordable healthcare and supports Medicare for all.

Improving Quality of Life For New Yorkers: Carolyn Maloney knows that our city’s infrastructure needs major investment, and she’s already secured over $10 billion to update our bridges and tunnels.

Protecting Our Families: New York families and children have a right to be safe from gun violence. Maloney has never faltered in her fight for gun control, authoring bills to close background check loopholes and crack down on gun trafficking. After Parkland and the NRA’s response to the tragedy, she has redoubled her efforts to require universal background checks, renew the assault weapons ban and stop people on terrorist watch lists from buying a gun.

Fighting Back Against the Trump Agenda: Maloney has been on the frontlines of investigating and working to compel the Trump administration to uphold our democratic values. She has never been afraid to stand up to the powerful, taking on the big banks to save consumers $12 billion a year.

Maloney has authored and passed more than 70 measures: the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act; the Debbie Smith Act, which increases funding for law enforcement to process DNA rape kits and has been called “the most important anti-rape legislation in history;” and the Credit CARD Act, also known as the Credit Cardholders’ Bill of Rights, which The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) reported has saved consumers more than $16 billion annually since it was signed into law in 2009.

Maloney is currently a senior member of both the House Financial Services Committee (where she serves as ranking member of the Subcommittee on Capital Markets) and the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and the ranking House member of the Joint Economic Committee. She has served as a regional whip and as vice-chair of the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.
