MSQ Celebrates 19 Years; Recognizes Outstanding Hospital Staff, FDNY-EMS

Mount Sinai Queens held a hospital-wide celebration on June 21 to mark its 19th anniversary of delivering high-quality health care in Queens. The festivities included awards for outstanding staff and clinicians, and FDNY-EMS Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians, Stations 45, 46, and 49.

The Mount Sinai Hospital acquired Mount Sinai Queens in 1999; though health care has been delivered at this location for more than 120 years.

Schwab, Executive Director, Mount Sinai Queens. “To support that growth, we have continued to expand physician faculty, RNs, technicians, and staff. We are proud to have such a strong team of caring and engaged employees.”

In addition to providing high-quality care and service, they are kind-hearted, courteous, and team players,” said Judy Trilivas, Chief Operating Officer, Mount Sinai Queens. “It is important to recognize the staff and show our tremendous appreciation.”

In attendance were New York City Council Member Costa Constantinides along with representatives from the offices of Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, NYS Senator Michael Gianaris, and Assembly Member Aravella Simotas.

The following Hospital and FDNY-EMS staff were recognized for their roles in providing skilled, compassionate patient care: Evelyn Bautista, RN, OR, was named Employee of the Year; The Sterile Processing Department was named Team of the Year; Ana M. Rodriguez, Director of Community Affairs and Volunteer Services, was named Manager of the Year. The award for service excellence was given to Kelsey Moyer, RN, BSN, PACU. Christopher Howard, RN, 3 West, was named Freshman of the Year and Krystal Cascetta, MD, was named the Hospital’s Physician of the Year. Person of the Year Awards went to EMT Sidney Castiblanco of Station 45; EMT Victor Gornecki of Station 46, and Paramedic Paul Rufrano of Station 49.

Captain Joseph Gasparini, Station 49, commented on the longstanding, mutually supportive relationship between FDNY-EMS and Mount Sinai Queens. He remarked on how much the EMTs and paramedics and the physicians, nurses and staff of the Emergency Department rely on one another.

“Mount Sinai Queens is an outstanding model of proactive health care, a hospital dedicated to keeping the community healthy through superb outpatient services, and, when needed, excellent inpatient care,” said David L. Reich, MD, President and Chief Operating Officer, The Mount Sinai Hospital. “This is precisely why we are proud to have such a talented and kind team of physicians, nurses, therapists, technicians, and staff right here in Queens.”

The anniversary celebration, which has become a Mount Sinai Queens tradition, was held in the Kaufman Astoria Studios Entrance of the Mount Sinai Queen Pavilion, in the heart of Astoria. The event was attended by more than 125 staff, honorees’ families, and members of the community. In addition to refreshments and a custom anniversary cake, two Mister Softee trucks were on hand serving ice cream to staff and the community.
