A Historic First Drive-In Movie Night At Astoria Park

The Central Astoria Local Development Coalition and Assembly Member Aravella Simotas presented a historic first drive-in movie night at the Astoria Park parking lot on Friday, June 15 at sunset.

The big screen illuminated the lot with the highly anticipated showing of the timeless musical, “Grease.” Cars full of people lined up to see this classic as it was always meant to be seen. Audiences were “hopefully devoted” to every moment of this timeless musical, singing along with Sandy and Danny and to one of the greatest musicals of all time. Those who didn’t have a car came out with chairs to relax under the stars and took advantage of the beautiful evening. Many audience members couldn’t resist dancing right along with Sandy and Danny.

Marie Torniali, Executive Director of the Central Astoria LDC, said, “We thank Assemblywoman Aravella Simotas for making our first drive-in movie night possible. This was a fabulous event as evidenced by the honking of cars as the credits rolled. We have to make this an annual event.”
