Bandit Slashes Tenants In Court Square Break-In

Police are searching for a brazen bandit who broke into a Court Square apartment on June 3rd and slashed the tenant’s face with a knife when the man confronted him, police said.

Cops said the suspect was rummaging through the apartment on Jackson Avenue near 44th Drive at about 5 a.m. on June 3rd when one of the tenants arrived home and found that the front door had been forced open.

The 39-year-old tenant awoke his sleeping roommate – who slept through the break in – and the two men went to confront the suspect, who had locked himself in a bedroom, police said.

The suspect ran from the apartment when the two men stepped outside to call 911, an NYPD spokesperson said. When the tenants tried to stop the suspect he pulled a knife and slashed the 39-year-old tenant on his arm, police said.

The suspect fled the building and ran southbound on 23rd Street with the roommates in chase, police said.  The men caught up with the suspect moments later and tried to hold him until police arrived, but he pulled the knife again and slashed the 43-year-old tenant across his face and neck.

He suspect ran from the scene in an unknown direction, police aid.

The two tenants were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries, the FDNY spokesperson sad.

The suspect, who was captured on local surveillance footage, is described as a white male in his 30s. He was wearing a dark colored baseball cap, a gray shirt, shorts and black sneakers at the time of the attack.
