Ridgewood Man Fades 50 Years In Child Sex-Trafficking

By Liz Goff
A 33-year-old Ridgewood man was arraigned on May 23rd on a multi-count indictment charging him with kidnapping, sex trafficking, criminal sexual act and other crimes for allegedly coercing two girls, ages 13 and 15, into having sex with strangers for money.

Eddy Florence, of 70th Avenue in Ridgewood, was arraigned on a 43-count indictment charging him with kidnapping, promoting prostitution, compelling prostitution, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal possession of a forged instrument, criminal possession of forgery devices, criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminally using drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of marijuana, Brown said.

According to Brown, the then-13-year-old girl met Florence in November 2017 when she was living in a residential group home. The girl moved into a house with Florence a short while later, and had sexual intercourse and oral sex with him numerous times over the following weeks.

When police executed an authorized a court-authorized search warrant for the residence in December 2017, Florence was found in bed, naked below the waist with the 13-year-old girl, Brown said.  During a subsequent search of the house, police recovered heroin, marijuana and cocaine at the home, along with a credit card embossing machine, a forged credit card and fake identification, Brown said.

In November and December of 2017, Florence placed prostitution ads on Backpage.com for the 13-year-old and 15-year-old girls, which resulted in sex dates with strangers for money, Brown said. Both girls were forced to turn over all the cash they collected to Florence, and when the 13-year-old failed to make enough money, Florence allegedly yelled and threatened her, according to Brown.

“The defendant in this case is accused of profiting from prostitution by forcing two teenage girls into having sex dates with men for cash,” Brown said. “Once again, I want to emphasize that prostitution is not a victimless crime and that sex trafficking is an incessant act of brutality and degradation that scars its victims for life.”

Florence is facing up to 50 years in prison, if convicted. He was held without bail at his arraignment at Queens Supreme Court.
