NYPD Springs Into Vision Zero Crackdown

Authorities are cracking down on reckless drivers who become even more reckless as spring temperatures arrive.

City Department of Transportation (DOT) officials said last week that between 2007 and 2016 the number of serious traffic accidents rose as temperatures rose above 60 degrees, compared with periods of cold weather.

More than 28 per cent of people were severely injured or killed during the month of April than in January, DOT Commissioner Polly Trottenberg said.

NYPD Chief of Transportation said cops would be focusing on weekends on “dangerous behavior displayed by motorists, such as speeding, failure to yield to pedestrians and unsafe turns” as part of the Vision Zero Traffic Initiative.

Chan said officers would continue to remain vigilant to the behavior of reckless drivers, regardless if temperatures are chilly or warm.
