Danielle Bailey and her mother, Elaine Bailey, celebrated the birth of Danielle’s son Omari last week in the new Labor and Delivery unit at LIJ Forest Hills. Thirty years ago Elaine gave birth to Danielle in the same hospital. Talk about history repeating itself! When Danielle Bailey learned that she was going to give birth, she knew immediately that she would be delivering at LIJ Forest Hills hospital (102-01 66th Rd., Forest Hills). That’s because she and her very large extended family have been using the services of the hospital for decades. In fact, Danielle, a resident of Queens Village, was born at the hospital when it was known as LaGuardia Hospital. Names may change, but for the Bailey family, the destination remains the same.

Things have certainly changed. When Danielle was born 30 years ago, new moms and their babies generally shared a room with at least two other families… this created a constant atmosphere of noise and chaos. Today, baby Omari, like other newborns at LIJ Forest Hills, gets to know his mom and bond with his family in a newly-decorated single room that could easily pass for a hotel suite. Latest research reveals that the single-bed model fosters increased bonding and relaxation between mother and baby.

Baby Omari, born March 26, weighed in at a healthy 7 pounds, 15 ounces and already has several cousins waiting to meet him…all, of course, born at the same hospital.

The proud grandmother was eager to help with the business of bringing the family’s newest addition home later that afternoon.

Elaine, also a resident of Queens Village, is thrilled that her new grandson shares the same beginning as her daughter…and a few other grandchildren.  Both Danielle and Elaine say the hospital has been there for the family through good and bad times, and the idea of coming back for Omari’s birth was a no-brainer.

Elaine, one of 11 sisters, is convinced that baby boy Bailey will be the new prince of the family.
