Man’s Body Found In Water Near LIC Shoreline

The body of a man with a prosthetic leg was discovered floating in the East River off the Long Island City coastline on March 27th, police said.

Cops said a passerby spotted the body in the water off 44th Drive in Long Island City at about 5 p.m. on March 27th, near the landmarked Pepsi-Cola sign.

The man, who fits the description of a 72-year-old local man who went missing two weeks ago, was wearing a blue shirt and black running pants, police said.

Police did not immediately release the man’s name, pending identification by family members. An investigation is ongoing.

The city Medical Examiner’s office will determine the cause of death.
