Koslowitz Honors Four At Women’s History Week Event

Council Member Karen Koslowitz with honorees of her 7th Annual Women’s History Month Celebration. Council Member Karen Koslowitz acknowledged the exceptional contributions and careers of four outstanding local women at her 7th Annual Women’s History Month Celebration. The event was held in conjunction with a Women’s History Month poster contest.

The Council Member asked the pupils in the schools of Council Member Karen Koslowitz honored participants in her poster program with City Council Citations.

Council Member Karen Koslowitz honored participants in her poster program with City Council Citations. her district, grades pre-K through 5th, to create posters in commemoration of Women’s History Month. This year’s theme is: “Nevertheless she persisted—women who fight all forms of discrimination against women.” The student artists were presented with a City Council Citation by Koslowitz in front of a packed house of family and friends at the Forest Hills Jewish Center last Thursday night.

The four women who were honored by Koslowitz in recognition of their exceptional careers and contributions to the local community were: Juanita Holmes, NYPD Commanding Officer of Queens North; Susan Migliano, Principal of PS 196; Carmencita Gutierrez, Director of the Queens District Attorney’s Office of Immigrant Affairs; and Elizabeth Crowley, former member of the NYC Council.

An account of their achievements was related to a very appreciative audience by Koslowitz. Each of the four honorees are examples of women who excel in their vocations at a time when total equality for women is a goal yet to be achieved.
