Koslowitz & Hevesi Commend Faculty and Police After Forest Hills High School Gun Threat

NYC Council Member Karen Koslowitz (D-Forest Hills) and NYS Assembly Member Andrew Hevesi (D-Forest Hills) commended the actions of the faculty, staff, and students of Forest Hills High School (FHHS) after the school was put on “soft lockdown,” following a threat of gun violence. The threat proved later on to be a hoax.

“To be perfectly clear, whenever threats are made against our children, the utmost caution must be used,” said Council Member Koslowitz. “Threats of gun violence against students can never be taken lightly. That’s why I want to take this opportunity to praise the work of the 112th Police Precinct and its Commanding Officer, Deputy Inspector Robert Ramos, for their quick action in collaborating with school officials. They assessed the situation, ensured everyone remained calm, and quickly contained a situation. One that could have escalated out of control, considering the timing of the threat, which occurred just one day after thousands of students citywide held walkouts in protest of gun violence. The quick actions of school officials and police ensured that the person responsible for this hoax was swiftly taken into custody, allaying the fears of students and their families.”

“I applaud the actions of the 112th Precinct and their Commanding Officer, Deputy Inspector Ramos, for their swift response to yesterday’s threat at Forest Hills High School. Our teachers and administrators at FHHS demonstrated composure and competence as they kept control of the situation until the police determined there was no longer a credible threat. In the unfortunate aftermath of the senseless gun violence we’ve seen nationwide, any perceived threat, even if it ends up being a hoax, must be taken seriously. I am relieved to know that everyone is safe, the suspect is in custody, and FHHS and our community can have peace of mind (knowing) that our students are being educated in a safe environment,” said Assembly Member Andrew Hevesi.
