SHAREing & CAREing announced some of their upcoming events. Sign up for healthful and preventive care.

Chair Stretching and Guided Meditation: Spring Cleaning for Mind, Body, and Spirit (Workshop) Thursday, March 22, 3:30 – 5 pm at Queens Public Library, Elmhurst. Learn and practice meditation and stress management techniques, including stretches that you can do in a chair. “Because this is the second day of spring, we will focus particularly on chair stretches and guided imagery that help us shed unwanted and unnecessary stressors and let some fresh air, thoughts and wishes come blowing in! Come to relieve stress, and feel more calm, open and confident,” SHAREing & CAREing said, adding that all are welcome but are requested to register, at shareing-careing.org.

Breast Cancer Education Program @ Voyages HS in Elmhurst Monday and Tuesday, March 26 & 27. SHAREing & CAREingʼs Be a Friend to Your Mother high school outreach program is a unique approach to communicating with young people that is sensitive to their needs while effectively teaching the importance of being proactive in their health. They provide education around early detection, self-exams, and overall prevention with the actionable take-away of having them share this vital information with their family members—especially their mothers, aunts, and grandmothers.

Breast Cancer. Education. Action. Treatment (BEAT) Program Wednesday, March 28. By Appointment at SHAREing & CAREing HQ in Astoria. This program helps connect underserved and underinsured women qualifying for free and low-cost mammograms. In 1994, SHAREing & CAREing initiated its signature B.E.A.T. Breast Cancer Initiative, Breast Cancer. Education. Action. Treatment. “Our goal is to mobilize women to seek mammography screening by removing the barriers created by fear and lack of understanding. Through education and outreach we link uninsured or under-insured women who are 40-plus years old to free or low cost mammography. SHAREing & CAREingʼs long-term survivors act as patient navigators for women who require surgery and treatment to ensure follow-up with their doctorsʼ recommendations. Survivors are bilingual and have personally been through a similar protocol of treatment. These services are available through Mount Sinai Hospital Queens, however arrangements can be made throughout New York City. Make an appointment at www.shareing-careing.org/what-we-do or call their Help Line at 718-777-5766; fax: 718-777-5772; email: anna@shareing-careing.org.
