Flu Shots For LeFrak Residents

NYS Senator Peralta, in cooperation with NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst and LeFrak City Maintenance Services, provided free flu shots for residents of the LeFrak City housing complex. NYS Senator Peralta, in cooperation with NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst and LeFrak City Maintenance Services, provided free flu shots for residents of the LeFrak City housing complex. In light of the deadly flu outbreak that killed four children in New York City, including an 8-year-old girl in LeFrak City, NYS Senator Jose Peralta, NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, and LeFrak City Maintenance Services urged New Yorkers to protect themselves and their families and get the flu shot, a vaccine that can save lives.

Facilitating this, in cooperation with NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst and LeFrak City Maintenance Services, Senator Peralta provided free flu shots for residents of the LeFrak City housing complex. As of February 3 there have been 52,567 laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza in New York State. In New York City, there have been 13,200 cases confirmed as of January 27.

“Unfortunately, this flu season is not over. The tragic deaths of Amely, Elisa, and two other children reminds us of how dangerous the flu outbreak is. I urge New Yorkers to protect themselves, and their children, and get vaccinated if they haven’t done so already. We need to ensure we do everything possible to combat the spread of this deadly virus as the number of hospitalizations is increasing,” said Peralta. “The influenza vaccine can be the difference between life and death. Nationwide, 63 children and teenagers died from the flu. I want to thank NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst and LeFrak City Management for making the flu clinic possible and providing potentially lifesaving vaccines to the community.”

“Queens residents are seeing how severe the flu is this year,” said Israel Rocha, CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst. “The best line of defense continues to be the flu shot, which helps to prevent the flu or, just as important, to minimize the flu’s symptoms for those who still catch it. It can save lives.”

A spokesperson for LeFrak City Maintenance Services said, “LeFrak City Management welcomes the opportunity to work with Senator Peralta and NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst to facilitate the distribution of influenza vaccine to LeFrak City residents. We care deeply about the health and well-being of our residents.”
