Antos Nearly 100 attendees meditated and rocked out to the rich sounds of violinist Olga Tourkina and pianist Philipp Petkov at St. Michael’s Cemetery’s annual classical music concert on Saturday Feb. 17. Held every year around Valentine’s Day, the event featured the talents of Tourkina and Petkov who performed many standards, including sonatas by Mozart, Schubert, Michael McLean, Scott Joplin and The Beatles.

This year Alexandra Moiseeva accompanied Turkina and Petkov on the violoncello. The trio performed several Beatles hits, including “Hey Jude,” “And I Love Her,” “All My Loving,” “Michelle,” “Yesterday,” “In My Life,” “Girl,” “Eight Days A Week,” and “I Will.”

Tourkina was born in Moscow and began her music education at age eight, while her counterpart, Petkov, was born in Belarus and began piano lessons at age six. In 2011, Tourkina was part of a violin duo that performed chamber concerts at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. Petkov performed in 2008 with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra as a soloist in the St. Petersburg Grand Hall. They are married and currently have a son and daughter.

Additional music enjoyed at the event included classic hits by the founder of ragtime music Scott Joplin, namely his signature song, “The Entertainer.” Other musical numbers “Sonatina in D Major” by Schubert, and “Tango No.1” and “Csardas” by Michael McLean made a pleasant addition to the afternoon concert. Plans are presently underway for next year’s St. Michael’s annual concert.
