Democratic clubs make a significant impact on communities. They give residents the opportunity to voice their views and opinions, oftentimes in the presence of their elected officials. The leadership in democratic clubs is crucial to the success of the club. As part of the JFK Club installations, current President Jeff Kohn was sworn in to his new term by Rep. Meng. During his speech, Kohn spoke about the current political climate under the administration in Washington, and the power that comes with uniting and empowering groups that are constantly under attack by the President, the club noted.

“The JFK Democratic Club plays an important role in Queens politics and makes positive contributions to our community. I applaud the outstanding work that the club continues to do, and look forward to continuing to work with Morty and Sandy Povman, Jeff Kohn and all of the club’s members to promote Democratic values and advance the agenda of our party,” said Congress Member Meng.

President Kohn said, “I was happy to see the turnout this year, especially with how things are playing out in our nation’s capital. Our club is growing, we are seeing people from all walks of life get involved. The John F. Kennedy Democrat Club is rich with history and it’s an honor continue to be president. There is a sense of enthusiasm right now, and we are working to form a women’s conference. I was approached by two high school students at the luncheon about forming a youth committee. This is what I love about our democratic club, we have the ability to engage young people and we are fully going to take advantage of these opportunities in the near future.”

Currently, the club is working on implementing a women’s conference and a youth committee as part of an initiative to ensure that all interests in the community are met.
