Straphanger Injured In 36th Street Subway Attack

Police are searching for a man who attacked a 45-year-old woman inside a Long Island City subway station on January 19.

Police said the woman was reading a subway map inside the 36th Street-Northern Boulevard station at about 6:40 pm when the man approached her from behind and struck her in the back of her head.

The man fled in an unknown direction immediately after the attack, leaving the stunned woman alone in the station, a police source said.

The woman was taken to a local hospital where she was treated for bruising to the back of her head, her hand and ear, an FDNY spokesperson said.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 25 to 30 years old, with an average build and short, dark hair. He was wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt, light-colored jacket, blue jeans, light-colored sneakers, and a knit hat and scarf at the time of the attack.
