Cuomo: Buckle Up In Backseat

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has included language in his 2018-2019 budget that would expand current seat belt laws to include backseat passengers.

Under current law, only riders 16-years and younger are required to buckle up while riding in the back seat.

The proposed seat belt requirement was one of a number of car safety initiatives included in the budget announced last week by Cuomo.

The budget also includes a measure that would prohibit junior license holders, those under 18-years-old, from using any form of cell phone or mobile phone while driving – including all hands-free devices.
