Driver Sought For Questioning In Fatal Crash

By Liz Goff
Police are searching for the driver of a tractor-trailer wanted for questioning in a crash that killed a food deliveryman in Maspeth on December 18.

Cops said the tractor-trailer was traveling north on 48th Street at about 8 a.m. on December 18th when it struck Hugo Ramirez as it turned right on 54th Avenue, about one block from the Long Island Expressway.

Ramirez was traveling north on a bicycle at the same time, police said.

Ramirez, 23, was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center in critical condition, a fire spokesperson said. The Elmhurst resident died of his injuries a short while later.

Police want to speak with the truck driver, who failed to remain at the scene. Cops said it is possible that the truck driver didn’t notice he had struck Ramirez.

Investigators are reviewing local surveillance footage that may have captured the crash, police said.
