Hit-Run Alert System Takes Effect In NYC

A new law went into effect on December 16, aimed to help law enforcement catch hit-run drivers.

The Amber Alert-type system will send alerts to mobile phones throughout the city within 24-hours of a hit-run accident resulting in a fatality or serious injury, urging the public to be on the lookout for the vehicle involved in the crash.

The system will be used on a case-by-case basis where police have been able to gather adequate information to send the alert.
