Early Ambush Attackers Working On a Plea Deal

By Liz Goff
Attorneys for three suspects accused in the December 2015 ambush attack on ex-NY Knick Cleanthony Early are working out plea deals with federal prosecutors.

Federal prosecutors said the suspects forced Early and his girlfriend out of an Uber car outside the Citiscapes Gentlemen’s Club in Maspeth on December 30, 2015, and stole jewelry and cell phones from the couple before Dashawn Tejada shot Early once in the kneecap.

Attorneys for Tejada, Shaqueel Walker and Jose Rivera told a Brooklyn Federal judge that their clients have opted to accept a plea deal, prosecutors said. The three men were facing charges including armed robbery, but it is unclear what charges will be included in the plea deal some time in January.

Another man, Delvon Dowling, 26, admitted to federal agents earlier this year that he participated in the attack on Early.

Dowling said he and his accomplices met in Brooklyn o the evening of December 30, 2015 and traveled in three vehicles to the Maspeth jiggle joint to pull off a robbery.

The men left the club after they spotted Early with his girlfriend and waited outside for the hoopster to leave, Dowling said.

The men approached Early with guns drawn as he sat in his Uber car and stole $9,000 worth of gold chains, an iPhone and gold caps from Early’s teeth before forcing him and his girlfriend out of the car, Dowling said.

Dowling told federal agents that he later sold Early’s iPhone on the street for $40.

Early left the Knicks shortly after the shooting and is now playing for the Santa Cruz Warriors.
