OK Amber Alert’ System For Hit-Runs

The City Council last week passed a bill that will create an Amber Alert type system that would help law enforcement capture hit-run drivers.

The legislation requires the city to send out an alert whenever a hit-run driver kills or seriously injures a pedestrian. The alerts will include a description of the driver and/or the vehicle involved in the incident.

The City Council was initially presented with two bills regarding hit-run drivers, including the measure passed on November 16 by the full council.

The second bill called for a $1,000 reward for anyone providing information leading to the arrest and conviction of hit-run drivers.

Mayor Bill deBlaso is expected to sign the measure, a spokesperson said.
