Photo Victoria Canore/DMD ImagesIt was very evident to most New Yorkers that the relationship between New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has been cool if anything. But something changed that, if only for one day. On Halloween, hours before the start of the 2017 Greenwich Village Halloween Parade a terrorist, Sayfullo Saipov, inspired by ISIS made a deadly run along a bicycle path on the West side of lower Manhattan mowing down bicyclists killing 8 and injuring 11. Police officials characterized this incident as athe worst terror attack on New York City since September 11, 2001. Federal investigators found out that the terrorist used a truck to inflict maximum pain and suffering to Americans. He even planned to hit the walkers on the Brooklyn Bridge after carrying out his first attack on the bicyclists. That attack was interrupted when he crashed his truck into a bus on the west side.

The terrorist was prevented from causing any further mayhem when he was shot and killed by law enforcement as he left his truck following the accident with the bus, screaming “Allahu Akbar,” as he waved paintball and pellet guns in the air.

His rampage was planned for Halloween to maximize the death count.  It is true that Halloween ranks first in fatal auto induced accidents.. That’s higher than other holidays in which you might think ranks higher. In fact Halloween has twice as many fatal children’s accidents than any other holiday of the year.

Following the terror attack on helpless bicycle riders and joggers Mayor deBlasio and Governor Cuomo made statements about the importance of New Yorkers to remain united against attacks on New York City.

Later in the evening the two elected officials walked side by side in the Halloween Parade on the way to Greenwich Village. Their purpose was to show unity following the terrorist attack earlier in the day.
