Van Bramer Officially Cuts Ribbon To IS 125 Annex

NYC Council Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer cut the ribbon on November 5 the completed $100 million school extension at I.S. 125 in Woodside. Majority Leader Van Bramer was joined by IS 125 Principal Judy Mittler along with parents, teachers, and students. The new annex project adds 600 seats to the overcrowded middle school and includes a new cafeteria, gym, and state-of-the-art technology in every classroom.

Prior to the expansion, I.S. 125 was at 123% capacity and children had to walk outside in snow and rain to reach classes in “temporary” trailers. The new five-story annex will alleviate overcrowding and provide modern, high-quality spaces in which Woodside’s children can learn.

“Good schools are the bedrock of good neighborhoods,” Majority Leader Van Bramer said. “I.S. 125’s staff, teachers, and families work hard every day to make sure their children get an exceptional education. By completing this expansion, we are ensuring that students have modern, functional spaces in which to learn. As neighborhoods across Western Queens continue to grow, investments in our schools like the one today are investments in the future of our communities.”

Since taking office in 2010, 12 new schools have been built or funded in Majority Leader Van Bramer’s district.
