Woodside On The Move Names New Executive Director

The Woodside on the Move Board of Directors announced the appointment of Michael J. Vaz as Executive Director of the grassroots community organization dedicated to making Woodside and western Queens a better place to live and learn. Vaz’ resume includes over 20 years of executive planning, administration and programming in the non-profit sector. “We are very pleased to announce this appointment,” stated Robert Piazza, President of the Board of Directors. “Michael will bring leadership and creativity to our organization’s programs and a deep sense of commitment to the residents of Woodside. He has served non-profits at all program and leadership levels, and has a breadth of perspective and experience.” Prior to joining Woodside on the Move, Vaz was a program manager at Sports and Arts in Schools Foundation, developing and implementing educational, after-school programing, and supporting various grant initiatives throughout the city. He also served as the director of Grand Street Settlement’s Bushwick Cornerstone in which he provided engaging, high-quality, year-round programs for adults and young people. Awarded with the New York City Council Proclamation in 2016 for his work with youth in New York City, Vaz has worked on issues affecting low-income and minority New Yorkers, especially those relating to educational services.

As Executive Director of Woodside on the Move, Vaz will work to respond to community interests and needs through the organization’s continuum of vital human services and programs. His initiatives will work across program areas, extend to all neighborhoods within Woodside and western Queens to incorporate a citywide network of partnerships and collaborations – all to create a more effective continuum of services for thousands of New Yorkers. These collaborations will help Woodside on the Move expand its impact and propel its mission to empower individuals, support families and advocate for the Woodside community.

Since 1976, Woodside on the Move Inc. has been active in creating a stable and thriving community for vulnerable residents in Queens through education and advocacy.
