Fall Leaf Pickup Rules

City street trees are shedding their leaves, turning sidewalks into great piles of color. Nice words if you’re not the one that has to clean them up!

The Department of Sanitation (DSNY) has released its annual list of rules for fall leaf collection for western Queens neighborhoods.

Homeowners and landlords in Community Board 1 should set out leaves for curbside collection after 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, for pickup on Sunday, November 19, and on Saturday, December 2, for pickup on Sunday, December 3, DSNY officials said.

Collect leaves in paper lawn & leaf bags or open, unlined containers. All yard waste set out in plastic bags will be collected with regular garbage. Find out where to buy paper lawn & leaf bags at: www.nyc.gov/leafcollection.

IMPORTANT: Due to the Asian Long-Horned Beetle quarantine, you must notify the Department of Parks at 311 or visit www.on.nyc.gov/wood-debris before you set out wood debris (branches, large twigs,) for curbside collection.

Landscapers and professionals must dispose of yard waste at an authorized composting facility.
