SE Queens Electeds Collecting For Disaster Stricken Caribbean

Local residents are encouraged to donate what they are able to in aid of those in Puerto Rico and across the Caribbean.

NYS Sen. Leroy Comrie said, “So far, the 2017 Hurricane Season has produced four powerful storms that have devastated islands across the Caribbean and communities here in the United States. Millions in Puerto Rico and thousands in the US Virgin Islands are without power for the foreseeable future, hundreds of Barbudans are unable to return to their homes, and countless buildings across Saint Martin have been destroyed to name just a few ways that these storms have wreaked havoc on the Caribbean.

Elected leaders from across South Queens have teamed up with NYPD Patrol Borough Queens South to collect much needed goods for those who have been affected by these storms. NYPD Precincts across South Queens will be drop-off locations for items like batteries, flashlights, non-perishable canned/dried food, portable lanterns, diapers, baby wipes, bottled water, toiletries, hygiene products, new cleaning supplies, and other non-perishable items. All items must be new and unopened. Most collections are not accepting clothing.

Senator Comrie has teamed up with Assemblymembers Alicia Hyndman, Michele Titus, Clyde Vanel, Stacey Pheffer-Amato, David Weprin, Councilmembers I. Daneek  Miller, Rory Lancman, Barry Grodenchik, Donovan Richards, and the NYPD. The collection is continuing indefinitely.
