Last Wednesday, as part of her book tour, former Secretary of State, U.S. Senator, and First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton stopped by Greenlight Bookstore in Fort Greene, Brooklyn to sign copies of her new book, “What Happened,” which reflects on her 2016 presidential campaign.

Co-owners of the small local bookstore, Jessica Stockton Bagnulo and Rebecca Fitting greeted Ms. Clinton before she sat down to meet with, and sign books for throngs of enthusiastic fans who wrapped all the way around the block. At the front of the line, inspired small children cheered as Secretary Clinton entered the bookstore chanting slogans such as “Stronger Together” and holding up signs of quotes from Clinton. One girl in line was dressed in a white pantsuit, Clinton’s signature look for the 2016 campaign. Once inside, a little girl asked Ms. Clinton if she could hug her and Clinton’s face lit up as she hugged the young fan. As the people came and went, Clinton expressed how happy she was to see them.

Next door, Scoops and Sweets ice cream served Clinton Caramel Chip Sundaes to mark the occasion. If former President Bill Clinton had stopped by, there would have been a vegan option.

“What Happened” captures Secretary Clinton’s perspective of the 2016 election and what led to her Electoral College loss. Clinton discusses the highs and lows of the election and the unique, rewarding experience of breaking the 240-year glass ceiling to become the first woman in American history to be nominated by a major political party for President of the United States. “What Happened” is also a cautionary tale to prevent what happened in 2016 from ever happening again, especially to future women nominees. To sum it up best, Clinton describes “What Happened” as a sobering telling of her story of the 2016 election, filled with optimism for America’s future. This optimism is clearly evident in the scores of supporters that eagerly waited in Fort Greene to meet the woman they admire, as they go “Onward Together.”
