Fundraiser For Breast Cancer Awareness To Be Held On Oct. 1

A Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser, sponsored by the Hunters Point Parks Conservatory, the Long Island City Partnership, the Hunters Point Civic Association and others, will be held October 1, from 10 am to 5 pm.

The main location will be on Borden Avenue, between 5th Street and Center Boulevard. All proceeds will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

The block fair will feature DJ Voc@B handling the music.

There will be a snow cone machine, popcorn, cotton candy and water bottles; Operation ID, a dunk tank, shirts, hats, decals, bracelets, face painting, a basketball hoop and a bouncy castle and slide. There will be a clown show on the block between noon and 2:00 pm. The Police Explorers Club will put on a car wash. There will also be an art program, joined by the Hunters Point Civic Association. Specialized police units—highway, mounted, K-9, ESU and harbor—will be present.

Between 3 pm and 5 pm, an Eagles tribute band will perform at The Park at LIC Landing, near Coffeed.

In addition to the HPPC, the LICP and the HPCA, sponsors of the event are: Mount Sinai Hospital, Long Island City Gantry Parent Association, LIC Landing Coffeed, Super Community LIC and the 108th Police Precinct. —Thomas Cogan
