Pheffer Amato Helps Prepare Rosh Hashanah Food for Needy

On September 15, Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato (D-Far Rockaway) helped package and prepare food for the Jewish Community Council of the Rockaway Peninsula (JCCRP)’s Rosh Hashanah food distribution drive. Pheffer Amato has helped with previous JCCRP drives, including their Chanukkah toy drive in December of 2016 as an Assemblywoman-Elect. On Friday, Assemblywoman Pheffer Amato was joined by Councilman Donovan Richards (D-Laurelton) and other volunteers.

The JCCRP is a year-round social service organization that, according to their website, “since 1972… has been providing services on a non-sectarian basis to those in need and advocating issues of concern to the community.” Services offered by the organization include career counseling, disaster relief case management, financial counseling, housing and landlord/tenant mediation, legal assistance, Medicaid enrollment, and enrollment in the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP).

“The reason myself, Councilmember Richards and so many others in the community keep coming back to JCCRP is simple: they get things done for the folks who need it most,” said Pheffer Amato. “This is a superb organization with a 46-year history of finding unmet community needs and meeting them. Rosh Hashanah is all about sweet new beginnings, so it was only appropriate we start by helping our neighbors get a fresh start with good food and tikkun olam (repair of the world). Thanks to the JCCRP for another great event!”
