Deliveryman Critical In MTA Bus Crash

By Liz Goff
A 31-year-old food deliveryman was critically injured when his moped collided with an MYA bus near Citi Field on September 11.

Cops said the man was delivering an order of Indian food as he traveled west on Roosevelt Avenue at Shea Road at about 4:30 p.m. on September 11 when the bus made a right turn onto Roosevelt Avenue and struck him.

The moped was lodged in the undercarriage of the bus, dragging the deliveryman for a short distance, a police source said.

The victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center in critical condition with head and body trauma, a fire spokesperson said. He is expected to survive his injuries.

An MTA spokesperson said the moped struck the right rear of the on-duty Q-31 bus. There were no passengers on the bus because the driver, who had just completed his shift, was returning to a nearby MTA depot to sign out, a police source said.
